Some of the latest big celebrity events to be affected by the coronavirus pandemic include the Oscars, BAFTA, and Pakistan’s own LUX Style Awards (LSA).
While the LUX Style Awards for this year have been canceled, both the Oscars and BAFTA ceremonies have been pushed to April of 2021 with the Academy Awards being pushed to 25th April and the BAFTA to 11th April. Earlier, the Academy Awards were scheduled for 28th February, and the BAFTA were to take place on 14th February.
This wave of canceled and delayed events has reached Pakistan as well with the LUX Style Awards being canceled for this year, according to a press release. The funds of the show will now be redirected towards the Akhuwat Foundation to help the people being affected by COVID-19, particularly from the entertainment and fashion industry.
Asima Haq, the Beauty and Personal Care Director at Unilever Pakistan, said “The LUX Style Awards were conceived 19 years ago, to reward and promote Pakistan’s entertainment and fashion industry. Over the years, thousands of people have supported and worked on making it the most coveted award ceremony of Pakistan. Today, in these tough times, we want to support the members of these industries, whose lives and jobs have been affected by the pandemic”.
Amir Paracha, the Chairman and CEO of Unilever Pakistan, said “The LUX Style Awards have always stood as one the most esteemed platforms to recognize and celebrate the best in Pakistan’s Entertainment & Fashion Industry. We recognize the impact of this postponement and urge everyone to stay together in strength and spirit.”
